Synopsis: Cast out your cockneys, grab your Christmas spirit and leave that stale fruit cake at home as you get ready to enter a southern world of grits and gravy, red velvet cake and the occasional glass of sweet tea! This modern spin on Charles Dickens’ timeless holiday classic captures the sights and sounds of contemporary life in today’s South, while maintaining the heart of his beloved tale of greed and redemption. Starring a grumpy Scrooge and his brood, you’ll enjoy this revamped tale as it is told a campfire style complete with interrupting guests and silly holiday songs. There may even be a crazy (but genteel) woman with bouffant hair running around slipping some doctored sweet tea to thirsty folks in the park…

Book Sale – October 19, 2017

The Friends of the Elbert County Public Library will open their Fall Book Sale Thursday, October 19 at 5PM  in the library’s multipurpose room at 345 Heard Street.

The complete listing of hours is as follows:

Thursday, October 19 :  5PM – 8PM

Friday, October 20 :   10AM – 5PM

Saturday, October 21:  9AM – 1PM

Monday, October 23:  10AM – 5PM

Hardbacks, Large paperbacks and books on CD  will be sold for $1.00 per item.

Small paperbacks, children’s books, & DVDs  will be sold for 25 cents

The Library will happily accept the donations in good condition until close of business Tuesday, October 17.

Librarian Jan Burroughs reports, “The Friends  decided to move the sale up a month in hopes of avoiding the frenzy of the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. However, a big ‘ol box of books makes a great Christmas present if you have a big  reader in the family. Where else can you fill up a milk crate with books for under $20.00!  I give my sister of huge box of the “Friends”  books every year for Christmas. She doesn’t care if they’re used or not-- just as long as they’re good mysteries!”

The Friends of the Library use the proceeds of this sale to help fund several of the events for the children each summer  and to support the library’s electronic book library with the Georgia Download Destination. The Friends also help fund other Library programs and services throughout the year.

When you come to the sale, please consider joining the Friends of Library and help support the Elbert County Library and its many projects and services.
