Chili Cook Off – February 9, 2019

Author Andra Watkins at Elbert County Public Library – February 10, 2019

In March 2014, Andra Watkins became one of the only living persons to walk the 444-mile Natchez Trace. 15 miles a day. 6 days a week. For 34 days. Andra did the walk to launch her debut novel To Live Forever: An Afterlife Journey of Meriwether Lewis, but ended up having a life-changing adventure with her 80-year-old father.

Andra's New York Times best-selling memoir Not Without My Father is about making memories, about turning I wish I had into I’m glad I did. Andra’s presentation challenges audiences to evaluate their relationships. She gives attendees concrete ideas and strategies to leave inspired to Make a Memory of their own. In a one-hour, high-energy performance, Andra shows everyone, whatever their phase of life, how to make memories that matter.

"Andra is a dynamic public speaker, and she is passionate about influencing others to make important memories before it’s too late. Whether you are just starting out, facing the gamut of mid-life changes, or approaching life’s twilight, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to spend an hour to Make a Memory you will cherish forever." says Librarian, Jan Burroughs.

Andra spoke to the Rotary Club of Elberton back in late summer and had everyone in stitches with her descriptions of life on the trail with her elderly father. In addition to publishing the story of the adventures with her father, Andra is the author of a fantastic mystery series that features the ghost of Meriweather Lewis as the crime solver.

Meriweather Lewis, of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, spent part of his childhood in the Goose Pond District of Oglethorpe County. Goose Pond borders Elbert County along the Broad River. We can be sure that a young Lewis spent many hours exploring the woods and streams of Oglethorpe and Elbert County honing the skills that would make him Thomas Jefferson's choice to lead the Corps of Discovery Expedition, the first American excursion into the frontier that was part of the Louisiana Purchase  and on to the Pacific Coast.

Burroughs invites everyone interested in history, creating lifelong memories or just wants to be entertained on Sunday afternoon with hysterical tales of roughing it with a grumpy old man to attend the gathering at the Elbert County Library on Sunday February 10 at 2PM.
